While Huawei has enjoyed as difficult a 2020 as the rest of us, the Chinese firm is committed to keeping calm and carrying on – and now, the company has officially announced the Mate 40 Pro and Pro Plus.
Sporting a 6.7″ curved OLED display, the Mate 40 Pro carries a 50-megapixel main camera with a 20-megapixel ultra-wide lens. The handset’s periscope zoom accommodates a maximum optical zoom of 7x. While the Mate 40 Pro Plus carries a similar spec, it bundles in a periscope camera with 10x zoom and a 12-megapixel telephoto lens with 3x zoom. Just for when you need to be a jack-of-all-trades photographer.
The main affair of the show is Huawei’s 5nm Kirin 9000 chipset which the company has tipped as the world’s first 5G processor.
The Mate 40 Pro and Pro Plus carry a 4,400mAh battery with 50W wireless charging and 66W wired charging and (naturally) feature reverse wireless charging.
However, user delight might well stop there. The Mate 40 Pro and Pro Plus will be first-in-line to receive Huawei’s HarmonyOS, which will replace the Google-flavoured Android so many of us use day-to-day. Accordingly, the company is pressing ahead with its own AppGallery, and aboard both phones users will have to leverage Petal Search and Maps in place of Google Search and Maps’ native apps.
The Mate 40 is expected to retail for $1418 USD, while the Pro Plus will cost the princely sum of $1655 USD.
While we can likely expect both handsets to wind up on our shores eventually, no word has been issued on their arrival just yet.
