discover.film now comes as pre-installed app on Huawei Video

Following its widely reported split from Google Mobile Services, Huawei continues to do the most in seeking to add to its AppGallery and ecosystem with discover.film being the latest edition. Currently the leading streaming platform for quality short movies and entertainment, discover.film has been chosen by Huawei to be the company’s short-form content provider for its video platform, Huawei Video.

“It is with great excitement that discover.film is launching as one of our premium HUAWEI Video partners in South Africa. discover.film’s award-winning, quality content spans across all genres and languages and is perfect for our customers to watch on their Huawei devices. This partnership supports our strategy to bring more choice and the best possible Huawei Video experience to our customers.” says Likun Zhao, Vice President – Huawei Consumer Business Southern Africa.

Set to be available on over 100 million handsets globally, the discover.film app will be pre-installed and integrated into the Huawei Video app. Huawei has added that it will look at launching the app as an ‘ad-based video on demand (AVOD) app with a strong monetisation solution of its video inventory’. There will also be a subscription video on demand (SVOD) option that will be introduced later this year and it only will be available for customers who choose an ad-free experience.

We’ve spoken about it at length already but what is it exactly? Well, discover.film is a ‘freemium platform that has amassed subscribers from more than 190 countries since its launch in October 2019. discover.film hosts quality short movies, typically between 10-15 minutes in duration, featuring the world’s biggest movie stars and emerging talent across all genres and languages; from feel-good comedies to drama, sci-fi, documentaries and action.’

For individuals like us who enjoy cinematic quality video content, discover.film is a no brainer. The platform offers a quality viewing experience and in as much as it’s content is optimised for mobile viewing, videos can also be watched, streamed, or downloaded straight onto any internet-connected device.

Sarah Thomson, CEO and Co-founder of discover.film notes, “We are delighted to have been chosen by Huawei as a strategic partner for its Huawei Video app. Not only will the partnership deliver the best quality short movies to a vast global audience, it also gives our thousands of filmmakers a huge distribution platform, allowing millions of people from all over the World to watch their brilliant award-winning films using the ultimate video experience. Huawei is an exciting new partner to add to our growing portfolio of partners of major global airlines and telecom partners, who will be announced in the coming weeks.”
