All iOS 13 devices will be upgradable to iOS 14

Something that sets iPhones apart from their Android counterparts is software support. While most Android manufacturers only guarantee upgrades to the latest versions of the Google-owned software for two years, Apple usually keeps their devices running on their latest version of iOS for four or five years. With iOS 14 on the horizon, it now seems that any device currently running iOS 13 will be able to upgrade to the latest version of Apple’s mobile software.

Most devices can’t (and don’t) last as long as Apple will provide software updates for them. They’ve even had to willingly and purposefully slow down older Apple devices through said software updates to preserve the aging batteries – something they didn’t disclose to customers and will have to pay $500 million for in penalty fees.

According to reports, you will be able to upgrade your device running iOS 13 to iOS 14 regardless of which device it is. Usually there are several devices (the oldest ones) running the current software that will no longer be updated to or supported on an upcoming software version. The information comes from a trusted source important to the software development process.

This means the following devices will all be updated to iOS 14:

  • iPhone 6S and iPhone 6S Plus
  • iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus
  • iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus
  • iPhone X
  • iPhone XR
  • iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max
  • iPhone 11
  • iPhone 11 Pro and iPhone 11 Pro Max
  • iPhone SE 2020
  • 7th generation iPod Touch

The latest version of Apple’s mobile software is expected to be launched at WWDC 2020, which will now be a live online event as a result of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. It is scheduled to be held on the 22nd of June.
