Earlier this week we learned that Samsung is planning to build a 600-megapixel camera sensor for their phones in years to come, but Xiaomi might have their own lofty ambitions for the 2020 calendar year. According to a famed tipster, Xiaomi will be the first manufacturer launching a phone with a 150MP camera sensor.
It is expected that this sensor will also be built by Samsung.

In 2019, Xiaomi was the first to launch a 108MP camera in a smartphone, with the Mi Note 10. At the time, not a lot was known about the sensor (other than the fact that Samsung built it) but as we’ve seen in recent months it has been used in various phones. It uniquely uses 3×3 pixel binning to deliver an ultra-sharp image, like in the Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra.
Other manufacturers are also rumoured to be building smartphones with a 150MP camera, including OPPO and Vivo, although these are supposedly coming in 2021.
The pace at which the camera arms race is moving forward is intense. The arms race has definitely moved on from displays. Not only are companies fitting more pixels into their sensors, but the sensors are becoming much larger. Some sensors are now almost are large as high quality point and shoot cameras and the lower end of the DSLR.
