In an effort to incentivise people to keep to social distancing rules during the COVID-19 outbreak, Sony is launching a Play at Home programme. It will give away free games for people to remain indoors and shelter. PlayStation 4 owners are able to claim Journey and Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection at no cost, even if not subscribed to PS Plus, from 16 April in South Africa (15 April 11PM ET in the US).

The Nathan Drake Collection includes Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune, Uncharted 2: Among Thieves and Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception, all remastered for PS4. In Germany and China, the offering is a bit different, substituting the Uncharted series with Knack 2.
You can claim these games anytime before May 5th and they will be free for ever if you do so. Because of increased demand since stay-at-home orders have been given around the world, Sony has capped their download speeds temporarily, so don’t be surprised if your download takes a bit longer than usual.

Sony Interactive Entertainment has also decided to assist indie developers with a $10 million fund, details of which will follow later.
Companies that are heavily reliant on its customers using the internet have seen growth during the coronavirus crisis. Customers spending more time at home has led to more gaming time, but not necessarily more game sales. Interestingly, Netflix’s stock price hit a twelve-month high as more people are subscribing, and subscribers are spending more hours streaming.
It is still unclear how the Stay at Home initiative was negotiated with game publishers, but it is good to see them participating in these kinds of programmes. Having AAA titles offered for free doesn’t happen very often, so take advantage while you can.
