LG has announced the new X Venture; a rugged, affordable smartphone designed to be used in unforgiving outdoor environments.
For several years Samsung has offered an ‘Active’ variant of its flagship Galaxy S smartphones, and now LG has taken a swipe at that offering with the revelation of the new, rugged X Venture; an affordable smartphone designed for unfriendly climates.
The promise of the X Venture is simple; go anywhere, and do just about anything. The handset’s design is somewhat reminiscent of the LG V10, and features a slip back rear cover. Present is a convenience key dubbed a QuickButton, which lets consumers map the button to whatever app they would like. Read: LG G6 Review: The Return of the King
By default, that button leads straight to LG’s Outdoor Essentials app, wich bundles together weather updates, a flashlight, a compass, step-tracking, and mapping.
Further included is a dedicated Glove Mode, which enables users to more easily interact with the handset in all weather conditions. An IP68 dust and water resistance rating rounds out the package for your everyday outdoorsman.
Specs-wise, the X Venture includes a large 4,100mAh battery and a power-sipping Snapdragon 435 processor. The handset features a 5.2″ 1080p display, 2GB of RAM, and 32GB of expandable storage. Further present is a 16-megapixel rear camera and a 5-megapixel selfie shooter.
Though the handset features the ‘X’ moniker that arrived alongside the bizarre experiment that was the X Power, X Mach, X Style and X Max, this is a different device intended more for those seeking a road warrior than one feature in particular.
The handset is exclusive to the United States for now, and will be available internationally later this year. We’re awaiting word if the handset will indeed be available in South Africa. Read: LG V20 Review: The beast, unleashed
