McDonald’s Australia – in a bid to better connect with the youth it employs – has begun accepting job applications through Snapchat.
It’s finally happened. The esoteric medium of Snapchat has finally begun to pervade every aspect of our lives, and now McDonald’s Australia has officially begun accepting job applications through the medium.

The moves comes as part of a bid for the Australian chapter of the company to connect with youth seeking employment. On the subject, Shaun Ruming, the COO of McDonald’s Australia, elaborated that:
“We think this is actually a world first. Snaplications is basically a Snapchat ‘lens’ that gives users the ability to apply for a job — or at least commence that process — by sending a 10-second snap. We’re the largest employer of youth in the country, so we’re trying to look for new and innovative ways to recruit crew people.”
Snaplications. Right, then.
How does McDonald’s HR department vet applications over Snapchat? According to the company, the firm is examining Snaplications and evaluating potential employees for their “positivity” and “bubbly personality”, which it asserts would cope well with customer service.
Should a snaplication be well received, users will be contacted to further continue with the formal application process.
If anything, the concept is a novel bid to get youth interested in a career with the company, though we’re not sure at present if this is just an unnecessary rung being added to an already very long ladder.
With luck, McDonald’s can use their acquired talent pool to turn out some wicked social media posts in the future.
