Google has begun testing a new food delivery and home services app, named Areo, for Indian users in both Bangalore and Mumbai.
Google pervades much of our everyday lives, whether it be in the form of Android or Search; and now, for users in Bangalore and Mumbai, the Mountain View giant has debuted Areo – a new means to order food and home services.
Areo is a unique take which combines food delivery and home service under one roof; users can not only order from their favourite restaurants, but further book services from carpenters, plumbers, electricians, or other service industries.

The app debuts with a search function that enables users to search for specific food, and further offers the ability to search for home service providers who are available at a given time – useful for either an emergency or a visit that’d have to be scheduled.
In a statement to Engadget, a Google spokesperson commented that the firm is “constantly experimenting with ways to better serve [its] users in India… Areo makes everyday chores and ordering food easier by bringing together useful local services like ordering food or hiring a cleaner in one place.”
Though the territory is an odd one for Google to compete in, the service will go head-to-head with local ventures and even international ones – such as UberEATS – alike.
Presently, there’s no confirmation if Areo will make its way to other cities in India, or whether Google sees a wider launch possibility for the service outside of the country.
