Google’s premiere iOS and Android keyboard, Gboard, can now let users translate text messages into various languages before hitting ‘send’.
Though it might have had humble beginnings as Google Keyboard, Gboard has quickly grown into one of our favourite third-party keyboards for its clever features, one of which includes putting the power of search right at your fingertips.
Now, the latest update to head to Gboard brings one of Google’s most celebrated services; translation. Equipped with Google Translate integration, Gboard can now instantly output a text message into a language of a user’s choice before the message is sent.

While Google Translate is by no means a comprehensive translation suite, the feature should be a great addition to conversations in which one language doesn’t quite illustrate the point of a particular message.
The update, which is presently rolling out to both Android and iOS users around the globe, is complemented by a small visual redesign which will place predictive emoji and GIFs from the predictive text section rather than in an alternate pane within the keyboard itself.
If you value aesthetics, the app now supports new scenic backgrounds which will change over time – a boon for users who enjoy customizing their keyboard to reflect their personality.
Gboard’s latest update brings with it access to more of Google’s fundamental services; the app already has been hailed as a means to integrate search and scrivening in one equal platform, and offers predictive text and swipe support to rival competitors such as SwiftKey and Swype.
