Pizza Hut has unveiled its brand new Pie-Top sneakers which arrive with Bluetooth built in for the purpose of ordering a pizza on-the-go.
In the revised version of Robert Zemeckis’ classic Back to the Future Part 2, Marty McFly arrives in the year 2017 with Doc Brown not to equip some self-lacing Nike footwear, but rather to strap on some of Pizza Hut’s new kicks which can order pizza at the touch of a button.
To cries of ‘Great Scott!’ everywhere, this is something Pizza Hut has actually gone out and done. Dubbed the Pie-Top sneakers, Pizza Hut’s new footwear make use of a Bluetooth connection to sync with Pizza Hut’s mobile app, through which users can configure the quick order of a pre-selected pie or Supreme Pie by default.

While that might sound like a wonderful idea, you might be wondering how a pizza delivery service might find you when the premise of wearing shoes usually involves walking and not sitting still; to that end, geo-location technology is built into the Pie-Tops, meaning that Pizza Hut can follow you just about anywhere.
We’re not sure if that’s a good thing or a bad thing, but with the news that only 64 pairs of the shoes will be made, we’re not too worried.
The introduction of the Pie-Tops comes after Pizza Hut’s sales diminished by 4% in 2016’s last fiscal quarter, and after rivals such as Dominos pushed the technological envelope by delivering pizza by robot in Australia.
