Apple has introduced 72 new emoji in iOS 10.2, including some internet favourites such as Harambe, a clown face, as well as facepalm, bacon, and selfie.
In 2016, Apple is striving to keep abreast of trends. Nowhere is that more evident than the fact that if you buy a new MacBook Pro, you’ll soon get a dedicated Touch Bar through which you’ll soon be able to add Harambe to all your text messages.
Alright, not really – but you’d be forgiven for thinking that Apple is making a statement on the unfortunate killing of Harambe the gorilla earlier this year with the inclusion of a dedicated gorilla emoji in iOS 10.2.

Apple’s release of iOS 10.2 to developers includes a range of 72 new emoji; included in the update are new emoji depicting internet favourites such as bacon, facepalms, selfies. In a move that’s sure to drive many Northern Americans crazy, there’s even a new clown emoji.
Of course, not all new additions are as trivial; a wider range of professional characters makes their debut in the new set, wherein male and female versions have been added; meaning that you’ll be able to select between gendered astronauts, teachers, artists, pilots, and much more.
Some of the existing emoji on iOS have further been tweaked; Apple has redesigned the classic peach emoji to further represent the fruit and not a particular part of human anatomy, and have added depth to spherical emoji such as the ones which depict the Earth, the moon, and the sun.

If you just can’t wait, you’ll be able to access all 72 new characters in the latest beta version of iOS, or when Apple finally releases iOS 10.2 to the general public.
