Interbrand reveals 2016's most valuable brands – and Apple is on top, again

Interbrand has released its Most Valuable Brands report, which reveals Apple and Google continue to slug it out in first and second position, respectively.

Interbrand, an international brand consultancy firm, has released its annual list of the most valuable brands operating worldwide – and, surprise surprise, Apple and Google continue to battle it out for pole position.
The Most Valuable Brands Report – which forms part of the 17th Annual Report Interbrand has administered – ranks cumulative brand value on three factors:

  1. The financial performance of the branded products and services
  2. The role the brand plays in influencing customer choice,
  3. And the strength the brand has to command a premium price or secure earnings for the company.

Of the top ten, Apple and Google are joined by Coca-Cola, Microsoft, Toyota, IBM, Samsung, Amazon, Mercedes-Benz, and GE. Mercedes-Benz ousted McDonalds in a coup d’etat which saw the fast food chain drop out of the top ten entirely. Apple grew by 5% to reach a value of $178,119 billion USD, while Google grew an impressive 11% to reach $133.3 billion USD.

Retail – fronted by the likes of Amazon, eBay, and IKEA -was found to be the fastest growing sector, which grew by 19%, while both the sporting and luxury sectors grew by 10%.
