Pokemon Go slated to get massive new features, including trading and a VR mode

Pokemon Go is slated to receive new features in the future, including the ability to trade, launch the game in VR, and find legendary Pokemon.

Since its launch, most of Pokemon Go’s updates have been controversial; Niantic’s decisions to reboot it’s Pokemon tracking system has placed the developer in hot water. Now, several Reddit users have uncovered a new wave of features headed to the game.
The changes, which were discovered as a result of exploring the game’s code, revealed that several features could soon launch either in a single update or a series of cumulative patches.

Trading Pokemon

References to phrases such as “Trade_Search” and “Trade_Offer” in the game’s code point to the possibility that players might soon be able to trade either Pokemon or Pokemon candies in game. This would allow players to potentially exchange duplicates or assist one another in evolving their favourites.

‘Buddy’ Pokemon

Remember how Pikachu never went inside a Pokeball, and instead followed Ash everywhere? References in the game’s code point to the existence of “buddy” Pokemon, in which one Pokemon could be assigned to follow a player around and collect candies automatically in the process.

Legendary Pokemon

Could Legendary Pokemon be making their way into the game? Phrases in the game’s code point to the fact that they soon could be. It would appear that Legendary Pokemon would be caught in a similar fashion to regular Pokemon, though naturally occurrences would be much more rare.

Specific incense types

Presently, incense is used to attract Pokemon while a player is out and about, and attracts all Pokemon equally. However, phrases in the game’s code point to the existence of specific incense types which would allow users to target a specific type of Pokemon; be it fire, electric, or water.

Virtual reality mode

Did Pokemon Go‘s augmented reality mode disappoint you? There might soon be a remedy for that; references in the game’s code point towards a dedicated virtual reality mode in which the game would support headsets such as Google Cardboard and potentially other types of headsets such as Gear VR.
