McDonald's begins giving away fitness trackers, then swiftly recalls them due to burns

McDonald’s has been forced to recall its line of ‘Step-It’ fitness trackers, which were available in the US and Canada, after they were found to leave burns on a user’s skin.

The world’s shortest fitness program has concluded, and McDonald’s thanks you for your participation.
At least, that’s the joke one can walk away with. Recently, worldwide fast food franchise McDonald’s began giving away small ‘Step-It’ fitness trackers as part of a bid to improve its public image in the United States and Canada. The premise was simple; instead of a Happy Meal toy, kids would instead be greeted with a small slice of tech.

Instead, things turned out to take a turn for the worse when the Step-It fitness trackers were revealed to do a little more than burn calories; they in fact burnt skin.
After numerous reports revealed that many users suffered from skin irritations as a result from using the bands, McDonald’s has altogether axed the offering. Instead, children in the US and Canada will instead receive normal toys when visiting their nearest restaurant for a Happy Meal.
The offer forms part of a recent trend for fast food franchises to offer assorted gadget and tech related accessories with their products. Earlier this year, McDonald’s launched a Cardboard VR headset named Happy Goggles alongside Happy Meals in Sweden, while KFC debuted the ‘Watt a Box‘ charging kit which rolled out alongside deliciously sinful fried chicken.
If that wasn’t enough, one has to consider that Pizza Hutt recently introduced its working pizza box DJ rig, while Domino’s Pizza is presently testing a delivery robot in Australia.
