Samsung unveils the Galaxy J Max, a whopping 7" phablet

Samsung has launched the Galaxy J Max; a phablet contender which bears a massive 7″ display and a large 4,000mAh battery.

Do you prefer your handheld more tablet than phone? Or more phone than tablet? Either way, Samsung’s got you covered with its newest device – the Galaxy J Max, a large 7″ smartphone.
Curiously, the J Max sports middling specs which might leave it unable to make the most out of its large display.

Launched on Friday, the Galaxy J Max bears a 7″ 1280×800 display, and is powered by a Snapdragon 452 SoC alongside 1.5GB of RAM, 16GB of expandable storage and an 8 and 2-megapixel camera split, the package is rounded out by a large 4,000mAh battery.
While its large battery will likely result in a great deal of stamina, the lack of an HD display and lesser Snapdragon processor will likely strip the J Max of any true multitasking potential.
Samsung punts that the Galaxy J Max was “œdesigned for those who are looking for a complete entertainment experience on a mobile device“ – in layman’s terms, it seems not even Samsung knows whether this is a phone or tablet.

The J Max joins several other Android contenders in an increasingly competitive corner of the market; that of the oversized phablet. Xiaomi recently introduced its pocket-filling Mi Max smartphone, which we felt was as large as a smartphone possibly needed to be.
It is as yet unclear if we might see the J Max on our shores; the device could accompany the refreshed Galaxy J line should Samsung choose to bring the handset to South Africa.
