Jide's Remix Pro is a hybrid laptop which lets you run Remix OS

Chinese company Jide has unveiled the Remix Pro, a full 2-in-1 hybrid laptop which runs Remix OS, a fork of Android which runs like a desktop OS.

If you could run Android on a fully functioning 2-in-1 laptop, which offers windows and start menu-style support, would you? Chinese company Jide believes you would, and that’s exactly the premise behind the Remix Pro – a hybrid laptop which arrives running Remix OS 3.
Remix OS 3 is a fork of Android 6.0 Marshmallow, which brings ‘true’ desktop computing features to the OS such as floating windows and a start menu. The OS, which was one of our favourite tech highlights of last year, brought the full power of the Android ecosystem to the PC world long before Chrome OS brokered the ability to run Android apps.

Last year, Jide released the Remix Ultra; the first device to ship with Remix OS 3. Now, the Remix Pro brings an updated set of specifications.
The Remix Pro includes a full HD display with a resolution of 2,160×1,330, a Snapdragon 652 processor, 3GB of RAM, 32GB of internal storage with microSD support, a 9,000mAh battery, and weighs in at just 640g, which is just half the weight of Apple’s MacBook Air.
The Remix Pro includes two cameras; namely, a 5-megapixel and 8-megapixel front and rear-facing setup respectively, and runs all standard Android features. Users, however, will need to sideload the Google Play Store to tap into the largest legal Android app store there is.
Jide’s Remix Pro is certainly an interesting concept, and one which – were it released a year ago – we’d be very excited to see. However, with Android app support imminent aboard many Chromebooks, we’re not so sure Jide has the monopoly it might have once had.
