LG’s upcoming flagship, the G5, has been indicated to arrive sporting an Always On display which will allow users to easily access notifications.
It’s previously been indicated that Samsung have invested in Always On display technology – going so far as to trademark the term – and now another contender from Korea, LG, has been tipped to include the feature on its upcoming flagship.
LG released a new teaser on its Facebook page through a GIF depicting ‘Always On’ functionality, which appears similar to Android Marshmallow’s native ambient notifications technology. Read: LG G5 Rumour Roundup: Everything you need to know
Previously, LG has incorporated Marshmallow’s ambient notifications feature on the second screen of the V10.
While Samsung have yet to officially receive the trademark “Always On Display”, LG’s partial use of the term could see legal action if Samsung are allowed to – and decide to – enforce the trademark. Read: Samsung Galaxy S7 Rumour Roundup: Everything you need to know
Further, the Galaxy S7 is expected to include an Always On Display as well, which could lead to greater rivalry between the two Korean smartphone manufacturers.
