BlackBerry officially leaves BB10 OS behind

BlackBerry has officially made the decision to leave BB10 behind and embrace Android as the operating system for its devices in 2016.

Not even 8 days into 2016, and BlackBerry has already made an interesting decision; its future smartphones will forsake the company’s BB10 operating system in favour of Android.
The company has already released the Priv, its very first flagship device to arrive running Android 5.1 Lollipop, and the firm may already have a follow up in the from of the ‘Vienna’ smartphone if leaks which surfaced in 2015 are legitimate.
BlackBerry CEO John Chen has elaborated his hopes that the Priv will bring the company back into the mainstream, from which the firm would be better positioned to produce another BB10 device.
Chen stated that while it is too early a point in time to establish his hopes for BlackBerry’s homegrown operating system, he is confident that BlackBerry will prove profitable this year.
Previously, Chen has stated that if the company proves unprofitable the Priv may be its very last smartphone.
For further insight into BlackBerry’s direction with Android, we sat down with Nader Henein, Regional Director of Product Security at BlackBerry for Africa and the Middle East, for an exclusive interview at AfricaCom 2015. You can listen in here:
