According to a new survey conducted by Consumer Reports in the United States, Apple’s MacBook Air has taken the crown of the most reliable notebook available on the market.
The company’s featherlight laptop has an estimated failure rate of just 7% in the first three years of ownership, according to the survey, which polled nearly 60,000 American consumers.
Comparatively, Apple’s premium MacBook, the Pro, received a failure rate of just 9%.
Consumer Reports found that Windows-powered laptops were significantly more likely to fail within the first three years of use, despite the fact that, according to the survey, MacBooks are used three more hours per week on average when compared to any other PC.
However, Consumer Reports noted that Apple’s notebooks were, unsurprisingly, significantly more expensive to repair when a problem arises, with a third of repairs costing $300 USD or more.
Further, more than a third of Americans polled who had bought an Apple laptop had added Apple Care, Apple’s extended warranty service, more than twice the number of Windows consumers who purchases an extended warranty for their new device.
