Don‘t be too surprised if 2016 is the year of virtual reality (VR) when it comes to the latest gaming trends. We have heard before that Oculus is almost ready to deliver a consumer version of the Oculus Rift, Sony will launch their PlayStation VR soon, and Samsung‘s Gear VR is repeatedly being updated to help you turn your smartphone into an immersive VR machine.
We now gather that one of the largest game publishers in the world is also now looking to get a piece of that (potentially) massive pie. DICE has started hiring creatives and engineers to bring VR support to Frostbite, EA’s seemingly ubiquitous game engine.
While their initial intentions aren‘t to deliver a massive AAA game, the “small and collaborative” team is being created for exploratory purposes only, and was announced by technical director Johan Andersson.

The Oculus Rift is arguably the closest hardware to delivering the immersive experience we are after here. So much so, that we‘ve been able to compile a list of the Top 5 Oculus Rift Games so far. But we‘re not sure if Frostbite would be using other hardware platforms or building their own when starting this project.
Here‘s a list of the positions currently on offer at EA DICE:

  • Virtual Reality ““ Creative Director
  • Virtual Reality ““ Sr Technical Artist
  • Virtual Reality ““ Sr Rendering Engineer
  • Virtual Reality ““ Sr Gameplay Engineer
  • Virtual Reality ““ Sr Software Engineer
