At AfricaCom this week, Huawei has made a strong declaration of interest in the South African market, showcasing many of its latest devices, including the P8, P8 Lite, Huawei Watch, and, last but not least, the MediaPad M2.
Right off the bat, we’ll say this: this could be the 8″ Android tablet we’ve been looking for.
The MediaPad M2 might be bereft of a compelling name, yet the rest of the device resonates with great appeal. Housed in a classy metal frame, the size, weight and width of the M2 recalls what might happen where an iPad Mini and HTC One M9 to have a baby; the M2 boasts both the form factor of Apple’s beloved tiny tablet, and attacks with the body smarts of HTC’s premium line. The result is a most classy experience. It is, for the most part, a better evolution of the M1 that preceded it.
Huawei’s Android skin polarizes users – while on the one hand it’s attractive and classy, and on the other it recalls Apple’s design language with far more snail-pace inducing baggage than other skins – Sense UI has never looked quite so good as on the MediaPad M2. Huawei’s work with its Android skin has resulted here in a package that offers the simplicity and beauty factor of iOS, yet retains a great deal of usability.
With Harman-Kadan speakers, the MediaPad M2 – as its name might imply – is built for media consumption; the 1200×1920 display with a pixel density of 283 pixels per inch packs almost as much punch as the classy metallic frame its encased in.
Sporting Android 5.1 Lollipop and arriving in both gold and silver colour configurations, the MediaPad M2 seems at first impressions as a worthwhile buy. Stay tuned for a review and availability and pricing news in the near future.
