Huawei unveils Watch Fit 5 series, matching premium style with agile fitness

Huawei has officially pulled back the curtain on its new Watch Fit 5 series at a launch event in Bangkok, introducing a refreshed lineup spearheaded by the top-of-the-line Watch Fit 5 Pro. Aimed squarely at a younger generation of tech-savvy consumers, the new series retains the familiar square design language of its predecessor while introducing critical hardware upgrades. While the standard Watch Fit 5 remains firmly rooted in everyday fitness tracking, the Pro model successfully bridges the gap between a lightweight health tracker and a premium, durable smartwatch.

Material craftsmanship serves as the primary differentiator between the two models. The standard Watch Fit 5 utilizes a lightweight aluminium alloy casing that is practical for daily workouts, paired with a strengthened glass display. The Watch Fit 5 Pro steps into luxury territory, featuring premium titanium alloy bezels and a highly scratch-resistant sapphire glass screen. Despite these robust materials, Huawei has managed to keep the Pro model remarkably sleek and unrestrictive; it measures just 9.5mm in thickness and weighs a mere 30.4 grams.

Both wearables boast incredibly bright AMOLED displays to ensure excellent outdoor visibility. The standard model features a 1.82-inch screen peaking at 2,500 nits of brightness, while the Pro model bumps the screen size to 1.92 inches and achieves a blinding peak brightness of 3,000 nits. Navigation across both devices is handled via touch controls alongside a physical, clickable dial and a secondary button located on the right side of the chassis.

Huawei has positioned the Fit 5 series as serious training tools capable of enduring harsh conditions. Boasting a 40-meter diving rating and multi-band GPS, the watches offer advanced tracking and analysis for competitive sports like tennis, cycling, trail running, and golf. For daily wellness, Huawei is introducing guided “micro workouts” hosted by an animated panda fitness assistant. These short, guided stretches and movements last from thirty seconds to a few minutes, making them ideal for busy professionals trying to stay active at a desk.

The Watch Fit 5 series is scheduled to launch in South Africa in May 2026. The standard model will be available in Starry Black, Moonlight White, Sage Green, Gentle Purple, and Silver, while the Pro variant offers Glacier White, Yardang Black, and a bold Danxia Orange. Cash pricing starts at R3,499 through cellular partners and approved retailers, with contract options available starting from R119 per month over a 36-month period through local mobile networks.
