Yesterday saw YouTube officially announce an exciting new feature for its Android app; support for Virtual Reality (VR).
Viewers who access VR content can now expect to enjoy realistic 360 degree perspectives of video content when using a VR headset such as Google Cardboard.
To use the new VR mode, users need to find a suitable virtual reality video in the official app, then click a toggle selecting the video for playback in VR mode, and then finally place the phone in Google’s Cardboard virtual reality headset.
Content creators can now upload VR videos that are directly compatible with Google Cardboard to YouTube.

Presently, the site offers a series of VR videos, and the network further announced that users can expect to enjoy an IMAX theater experience when using Cardboard with a non-VR video,.
So far, the updated Virtual Reality feature is only available on the Android version of Google’s YouTube app. The site has further confirmed that an iOS version is set for release ‘soon’.
