If our recent Google Cardboard review and competition struck your fancy I am sure that this piece of news would be of great interest! Lexus has taken crumple zones to the next level by creating a precision cut Lexus IS out of cardboard pieces. Yup that’s right, the car manufacturer created the car using 1700 pieces of cardboard. The recyclable ride is a full-size replica of a Lexus IS, which takes inspiration from origami and rolls on its cardboard-constructed wheels.

The car company partnered with UK design firms LaserCut Works and Scales and Models to create the vehicle, which features opening doors and an interior complete with seats and cup holders. The frame consists out of steel and aluminum and features headlights as well as an electric motor. What for? To drive it of course!
The assembly of the car was crucial. The accuracy required to ensure the car didn’t wind up a lopsided mess necessitated that each piece be delicately added by hand. The pieces were attached using a water-based glue (taking around 10 mins to dry) and the car took 3 months to complete. Check out the video of this crazy project below.
