Android 6.0 Marshmallow is available! Well, to developers that is. The newest public OS version got pushed and was intended for developers to work with some live software. Google promised that over-the-air updates to devices-at-large would start tumbling out in due fashion.
There has been a lot of reports and rumors (confirmed and unconfirmed) on exactly what the new OS will feature. The guys over at PocketNow was able to access the developer version and they are not entirely impressed. One of these aspects was the dark theme that we so desperately wanted in those pitch black room conditions. Another issue is the multi-pane app multitasking, or the lack thereof.
The x.0 versions (developer versions) are always a bit difficult to review, due to it not being close to the end product. According to the PocketNow experts the Marshmallow OS they had some issues with the smartphone indicating “charging” behavior whilst not actually doing so. The updated Google Now feature did well for about 80 percent of the queries they had it screenshot from their webpages and YouTube clips. Of course, others have reported more varying degrees of accuracy for the algorithm-based assistant.
For a lot of the software (and some hardware) features it is too early to make a definitive call. Take a look at PocketNow’s first look video of Android 6.0 Marshmallow in the video below.
