Blackberry hasn’t had a very good run since about 2009 losing out to the Apple and Android smartphone competitors. That might be set to change as Blackberry aims to release an Android powered device code-named “Venice”.
Back in July, we got a first glimpse at a BlackBerry handset running the Android OS. Well it was actually an artist’s rendering of what it might look like. The phone we’re seeing today looks quite different, to say the least. It features a display that curves around its edges, much like Samsung’s Galaxy S6 Edge. The most notable difference is that the Venice is said to offer a slide-out keyboard in case you don’t want to type on the screen. It just wouldn’t be BlackBerry without some sort of physical keyboard.
Other rumored features include a 5.4-inch QHD screen, a 1.8GHz Snapdragon processor, 3GB of on-board RAM as well as a 18MP camera. As most market analysts predict there’s no news as of late to indicate that BlackBerry is giving up on BlackBerry 10, its modern overhaul of the aged BlackBerry OS. Rather, it’s very possible, as the company has done with apps like BBM, that releasing an Android device under the BlackBerry moniker is a move that could act to both broaden their product range as well as attempting to gain back some market share.
