If you‘ve been on the Internet at all in the past 24 hours, you will more likely than not know about the major transformations over at Google HQ.
The biggest search engine in the world announced their plans of a major restructuring of the company yesterday and also announced that Google itself would now fall under an umbrella holding company called Alphabet.
In addition to the restructuring of the tech giant, Larry Page, co-founder and most recent CEO of Google also announced that the company would be getting a new CEO as of yesterday.
In an official Google blog post, Page introduced the world to Google‘s new CEO, Sundar Pichai.
With Pichai taking over the helm at Google, Page and co-founder Sergei Brin will be at the helm of Alphabet where they will oversee Google as well as other Google affiliated companies, including the health-focused, “˜life-extension‘ company, Calico – which is perhaps one of the company‘s more exciting projects as of late.
Pichai‘s Rise To CEO
Sundar Pichai has had a massive rise at Google over the past 10+ years, with his most recent position (before CEO) being Senior Vice President of Products. Pichai was also the main honcho for Android and Chrome OS.
Page said in the Google post that they are very excited for Pichai to be the CEO of Google and that they have a lot of faith in him:
“œ…[sic] It is clear to us and our board that it is time for Sundar to be CEO of Google…[sic] I feel very fortunate to have someone as talented as he is to run the slightly slimmed down Google“ his post read.
