Samsung tackles road safety with see-through trucks

Samsung is exploring some interesting avenues these days. Although their latest experiment isn’t exactly ground breaking. Back in 2009 a Russian design company, Art Lebedev, released the “Transparentius” concept for improving road safety. It was remarkably simple: put a camera on the front of large, slow-moving trucks and connect it to video displays on the back, thereby informing trailing drivers whether it’s safe to overtake the big rig.
This is the exact idea the large Korean company is pursuing.Making use of its abundance of outdoor displays, the Korean company has stitched together a video wall of four displays at the rear of the truck, which transmits video captured by a wireless camera at the front. They are currently waiting on regulatory approval for their “see-through trucking” concept but early indications show that the idea won’t make economical sense. It seems too large an investment for transport companies to make without any real financial benefit.
Still, Samsung needs to be praised for overcoming a lot of technical difficulties, like overcoming solar glare. Whether or not this innovation ever becomes common place we will have to wait and see. Check out a video of the product below:
