The upcoming iOS9 release has everyone speculating on just how many “new” features we are likely to see. A rumor that seems to be hanging around with regards to the next generation iPhone is the Force Touch feature.
The Force Touch technology is a feature that differentiates between levels of pressure on a display, and a new leaked report might offer a look into how it will be integrated into the upcoming iOS9 operating system.
According to 9to5Mac‘s sources, the next iPhone, likely the iPhone 6S, will not be an aesthetic departure from the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus. More importantly, it‘s expected that the phone will feature a Force Touch screen with haptic feedback.
The report indicates that Apple will develop iOS9 to fully integrate the new tech with apps on the App Store. Furthermore the Force Touch capability will most likely replace certain press-and-hold functions on previous iPhones, making room for a variety of new controls.
Apple will most likely punt the Force Touch feature as the new iPhone 6S’s biggest selling point and the feature will be akin to the New Macbook and Retina Macbook Pro‘s new touchpads. The integration includes pressure-sensitive scrolling in media players, looking up definitions quickly or drop pins in Apple Maps.
The technology will most likely make its way to the iPad range as well. We will probably (and hopefully) receive some official news at Apple’s Worldwide Developer Conference which kicks off on the 8th of June. For now though we can only speculate with rumored information on the net.
