Android M gets a codename – new version’s name revealed?

It‘s that time of the year again ““ Google I/O is around the corner and that means everyone is expecting the newest version of Android to make an appearance at the developer‘s conference, probably still as Android M.
As usual a couple of leaks have hit the web, and some claim that we already know Android M will be released in a couple of days and we may know what its name is going to be.
Numerous comments made to AOSP source materials have been referencing Android M as the “œmnc-dev“ branch, which is the internal codename for the newest version of Android M. While we can‘t be sure that this will be the final name (as previous version of Android has also changed names internally before launching), sources point toward the “œmnc“ in the codename meaning Macadamia Nut Cookie.
In the coming months we‘ll be receiving more details, but we‘re hoping the fact that Android might get a new name means it‘s quite a big overhaul from what we got last year. Android Lollipop was a great update visually, but there are still some problems that affect performance on some devices.
