The Mobile World Congress that is happening this week in Barcelona is always the pick of the trade shows when it comes to unveiling new smartphones, tablets, smartwatches an all the other mobile products you can expect over the coming months.
However, while it‘s very easy for us to get excited about the commercial products and gadgets, the show also provides some other types of hardware manufacturers that platform to show off their newest tech.
Today Qualcomm had a few such developments to share with us, including a new Snapdragon processor, some advanced authentication tech, and a platform that will drive the future of its SoC lineup.
Qualcomm announced a system call Zeroth, using cognitive processing ““ by which its chips will use intelligent algorithms and sensor data to anticipate user needs. It does sound a bit high-concept and fantastical at the moment, so we are excited to see the ways Zeroth will make our phones more capable in the months to come.
The more interesting announcement, at least to us, was that of the new Snapdragon 820 silicon. Unlike the 808 and 810, which used off-the-shelf ARM cores, it‘s back to custom cores with the 820, introducing the Kyro CPU. We don‘t have any other details as of yet, but will share them when we do.
There are barely a couple of phones on the market running the Snapdragon 810 at the moment, so we have no idea when this chipset will come to market. Check out the promo video below, which also shows some updated fingerprint scanning technology:
