Ellen DeGeneres was widely approved by the public as a good choice for host of the Academy Awards of the weekend. She is widely popular and her quirky comedic ability is much sought after in the hosting stakes as the last couple of years have seen very negativity-driven comedy, with the likes of Ricky Gervais and Seth McFarlane.
On Sunday even Ellen decided to get off the stage and interact with the A-list stars in the audience and then (in what seems to be a Samsung ad, actually) took an “˜impulsive‘ selfie and a bunch of the celebrities jumped into her shot on the Galaxy Note 3 she was carrying.
“We got an email from Twitter and we crashed and broke Twitter. We have made history,” DeGeneres said shortly after access to the social media site was disrupted due to sharing of her star-studded picture. It was down for about 20 minutes.
According to reports, the photo surpassed the record set by U.S. President Barack Obama’s “Four More Years” re-election victory shot. The picture of Obama hugging first lady Michelle Obama on election night in 2012 has been retweeted more than 780,000 times. Ellen‘s picture was shared or retweeted more than two million times in two hours after being posted.
