Cape Town-based mobile taxi ordering startup, Zapacab, has just released native apps for both iOS and Android smartphones to make ordering a Zapacab that much easier.
The app was designed in response to passenger‘s demand for “œclever, easy to use apps“.
Initially, Zapacab aunched their product on mobile browsers to allow all passengers easy access to ordering a cab. However, considering the fact that most passengers are either iPhone or Android users, request started piling in for a slicker app-based experience.
CEO of Zapacab, Rupert Scully, said that while Zapacab will still continue to offer the web based service to Blackberry users, it was strategic to launch these native iOS and Android apps:
“It is the sort of service you use on a regular basis so an app makes sense. People love clever, easy to use apps, and that is exactly what our team has delivered,” he concluded.
The app, which is free to download from either the App store or Google Play, is super easy to use and features a spruced up design.
By moving to a native app, Zapacab passengers will now have a much faster Zapacab experience.
According to the team at Zapacab, there has been a great uptake in the app since it was first launched last week.
Zapacab, which (at least for now) only operates in Cape Town, will continue to solely serve the Mother City, according to Rupert. He continued, saying that once the company has polished their service in Cape Town, they will look at expand their services to other places around the country.
However, passengers outside of Cape Town can still download and play with the new app.
According to Zapacab Product Manager, Matthew Aberdein, the new Zapacab app is super simple and easy to use without any fuss:
“Unlike other taxi apps, we have kept it simple. No account creation and minimal choices makes Zapacab the quickest and simplest app to order a cab in Cape Town,” he said.
Aside from launching new apps, Zapacab is also working closely within the industry to empower cab drivers. Rupert explains that technology is a great way of helping these drivers to improve their overall service, and stand tall against international competition.
Many of the taxi services and drivers within the existing taxi industry are suffering because they are under-utilised and really have no smart systems to rely on. With the introduction of their new app, Zapacab hopes to put an end to the (painful) and unnecessary 40 minute wait that most passengers experience – and aren‘t we glad about that!
