Microsoft will host a specialized hardware and software event in San Francisco on October 7, focused on how local artificial intelligence processing will shape the next generation of personal computing. Coming several months after NVIDIA unveiled its RTX Spark system-on-chip for Windows, the presentation is expected to provide key updates on local model execution and flagship hardware integrations.

The event will feature a joint presentation by Microsoft Chief Executive Officer Satya Nadella, NVIDIA Chief Executive Officer Jensen Huang, and Microsoft Executive Vice President of Windows + Devices Pavan Davuluri. The executives will outline the latest architectural developments spanning the Windows operating system, NVIDIA’s RTX Spark platform, Microsoft’s Surface hardware division, and third-party manufacturing partners.
Central to Microsoft and NVIDIA’s broader computing strategy is enabling artificial intelligence agents to manage complex, everyday workflows directly on client devices rather than relying solely on cloud infrastructure. While Microsoft previously explored ambient computing concepts through its Project Solara initiative, executing large AI models locally demands high-throughput silicon designed for heavy parallel processing. The Surface Laptop Ultra, engineered around the NVIDIA RTX Spark platform, is tailored specifically to meet these high-performance local compute requirements.
Initially previewed in June 2026, the Surface Laptop Ultra was introduced alongside a broader slate of RTX Spark-powered notebooks from major original equipment manufacturers. However, Microsoft withheld specific release dates and commercial deployment details during the preliminary announcement. The October 7 event is anticipated to finalize launch schedules, providing concrete rollout timelines for both the Surface Laptop Ultra and the wider ecosystem of RTX Spark Windows devices.
