Race Yourself is the app that Google Glass was built for, blending the real world with a virtual one ““ and its meant to keep you fit. Not only keep you fit, but keep you fit in a fun and interesting way. Forget the dreary jog on the treadmill; this will motivate you with fun challenges, games and competitions.
It will provide a virtual reality where you can race others around you, ski through checkpoints or even hit the markers while skydiving. All that and a map, speed, calories burned and time can be there at a glance.
This Google Glass app features over 30 games in total that cover a variety of activities. Race Yourself games are unlocked by completing workouts, exercising multiple days in a row, and burning calories. The addictive nature of gaming comes into play here, only rather than sitting on the couch staring at a screen your feet are hitting the pavement with the game on your face.
Race Yourself has already demonstrated traction; raising £200,000 in seed funding with investors and in moving its headquarters to San Francisco.
“œWe‘ve had a huge amount of support, and a lot of people are just as excited about the knock-on effects for Google Glass. We believe Race Yourself will demonstrate the potential of Glass as a consumer product,“ says Alex Foster, co-founder of Race Yourself.
Having spent the last 6 months developing, Race Yourself has now developed a product beta, and will be launching a crowd-funding campaign via their website on 8th January. Their vision will be showcased to the public via an online video, and anybody wishing to back the project will be the first to get their hands on a free copy of Race Yourself and 10 fitness games. For larger donations, backers will receive heart-rate monitors and speedometers that are designed to work alongside the software.
The only thing we are worried about is how it will feel to run with Glass on, although the company assures us that they won‘t bounce. What do you think about the idea?
