Local startup, 250gram, prints your Instagrams as Polaroids

With over 150 million users worldwide, it is safe to say that most people who own a smartphone, are into social networking and likes to take pictures of their food, has Instagram.
Many of us “˜Grammers use the ever popular photo sharing app to take pictures of beautiful vistas, cute animals or our loved ones and then make them look nice, thanks to Instagram‘s popular filters.
However, sometimes sharing your sassy snaps on social media isn‘t quite enough. Wouldn‘t it be lovely to be able to print your Instagrams, while still keeping the vintage feel?
Well, now you can with new startup, 250gram – and they‘re local, nogal.
250gram is a Cape Town-based company that will print your Instagram photos for you, using high quality inks in a Polaroid fashion.
250gram was born out of the idea and motivation to revive the photgraphic print culture. What makes their company different from any other store or company that offers photo printing, however, is the fact that it connects  directly to your Instagram account.
The premise is simple: you log on to their website and connect through your Instagram account. Once your connected, you can select which photos you would like to have printed, after which you check out and pay. You can then expect your photos to arrive on your doorstep, beautifully packaged within 1- 3 working days.
Another bonus is that your package will be couriered to you, rather than being sent through the post. This means that your package will arrive faster and in a better condition.

250gram also offer gift vouchers for printing. They give you the option to either email the gift voucher to your friend or loved one directly, or print it out and give it to them.
In addition to offering their Instagram prints, the company also offers a service which they call #SocialPrinting. This initiative is more focused towards  brands and companies.
This service will provide guests at an event with an incentive to take photos and upload them to Instagram using the relevent hashtags associated with the event and company.
Their “˜reward‘ for doing so will be printed Polaroids of these photos, given to them on location with 250gram’s printing booth.

While the whole initiative and service is already enthralling, its the price that caught our attention.
For a mere R4 per photo, you can have your Instagrams printed beautifully. Yes, that‘s right – less than R10 per photo.
However, the company does require a minimum of 20 photos per order, which will bring your total to R80. Add on the R30 flat fee for the courier service, and you are looking at R110 for 20, stunning snaps, beautifully packaged and delivered to your door.
Its always great to see local startups come up with ingenious ideas like this, and it makes one feel happy about the future of tech companies in South Africa.
