For anyone that has ever owned an iPhone, you should know the gut-wrenching feeling of dropping your phone and discovering a cracked screen.
Surely if you could prevent the dreaded cracked screen somehow, you would? Well, it seems that creating an impenetrable iPhone is finally (hopefully) possible.
RhinoShield is a transparent screen protector that claims to make your iPhone virtually impenetrable.
This new “˜miracle‘ shield was developed by two young students currently doing their PhD‘s at Cambridge University. These two have formed Evolutive Labs under which they are currently trading their RhinoShield screen protector.
According to the young scientists, RhinoShield works because of it‘s 6-layer concept. Instead of only having the standard oil-repelling and scratch resistance layers one would find on normal screen protectors, the RhinoShield has an extra 4.
These include an impact dispersion layer, impact damping layer, a high-strength and adhesive layer. Combine them all and you apparently get an indestructible screen protector.
Evolutive Labs also claim that the RhinoShield will not make your iPhone feel any different. The shield is merely 0.029cm thick, which makes it only three times thicker than a sheet of paper.
The guys at Evolutive Labs have already raised an impressive $119 000 in a successful Kickstarter campaign.
Kickstarter, which is the world‘s largest crowd funding platform, aims to bring creative projects to life and have helped more than 50 000 creative projects since its inception in 2009.
In aid of their campaign, Evolutive Labs released an almost unbelievable video showcasing the RhinoShield‘s impressive prowess. It shows an iPhone fitted with a RhinoShield being bashed with hammers, knives and being dropped on concrete. And then, miraculously, emerging unscathed.
Their Kickstarter campaign ended in May 2013 and the budding young scientists say that they could be ready for mass-production by April of next year.
Evolutive Labs plan on selling the RhinoShield for iPhone 5, 5S and 5C at $24.99 and for the iPhone 4 and 4S at $29.99.
The RhinoShield could become a must-have accessory for many iPhone owners – I guess it‘s worth a try to see if it‘s the ultimate iPhone protector.
