A few days ago, Tourism Radio proudly revealed that Gauteng Tourism‘s first mobile app, produced in conjunction with the Gauteng Tourism Authority, became South Africa‘s number one free travel app download.
Following this achievement, the app has also reached 8th place overall for free app downloads in South Africa with Tourism Radio now aiming for the number one spot.
Tourism Radio CEO and founder Mark Allewell says, “œAs a proudly South African company, we are ecstatic about the success of the Gauteng Travel Guide, which is powered by Tourism Radio‘s patent pending technology.“
The Gauteng Travel Guide encourages domestic and international travellers to explore the province, providing information about and guides for various attractions, venues and activities.
Tourism Radio has several white-labelled guides in the app store, including the South Africa Travel Guide endorsed by South Africa Tourism currently at number one in the “œwhat‘s hot“ category, Northern Cape Tourism Guide, the Paarl Wine Route Guide as well as companies like Diners Club and Land Rover.
Allewell adds that “œMobile applications are becoming useful tools for travellers when they visit foreign countries and currently there is a need for cross-platform apps of this nature in South Africa. What started out as a Tourism Radio-branded product is now offered as a white-label app solution that has proven popular with corporate entities and DMOs alike.”
Tourism Radio will also be launching a new product at the upcoming Tourism Indaba in Durban, which will cover guides all over the world in multiple languages.
Allewell maintains that Tourism Radio‘s apps are unique, as they play location-based audio and text information as the user moves around. “œWe‘ve also recently received patents for our technology in New Zealand and Europe, with patents pending in the North American markets. We‘re pioneers in our field, and it all started here, in South Africa.“
