Cartoonist Zapiro (Jonathan Shapiro) well known for his caricatures in the Sunday Times and the Mail & Guardian is now giving South Africans the opportunity to interact with his cartoons with a new mobile phone game Zafari, that aims to encourage South Africans to become involved in sensible political debate.
In order to fund the creation of the game by Seamonster, a local company that develop games, animations and apps, a crowdfunding proposal has been launched on startme.co.za.
Zapiro says that “Creating a game is an interesting method of getting people to play with my cartoons. It gives them an opportunity to create their own stories, and their own interpretation of South Africa”.
Zafari is an episodic game and contains multiple locations with many humourous scenarios, mini-games and hidden secrets for you to uncover.
In Zafari you are the the person in charge and those in the limelight in South Africa are subject to your whims. Your powers range from benevolent powers like saving their lives when they are in danger or naming streets after them, to malevolent powers like lashing them with hail and lightning.
