While reports of an unconfirmed smart watch with slap bracelet-like mechanism from Apple have made headlines recently, Samsung’s executive VP of mobile business, Lee Young Hee, has confirmed that the company is developing its own brand of wearable smart devices and a wrist watch is one of them.
Bloomberg reports that the VP has stated that “œWe‘ve been preparing the watch product for so long. We are working very hard to get ready for it. We are preparing products for the future, and the watch is definitely one of them.“
However, this is not the first attempt Samsung has made at wearable electronics having released the SPH-WP10 in 1999 and the S9110 in 2009 (pictured above).
Lee provided no other details of the new watch’s features, launch date or price.
The Apple smart watch reports have gone so far as to reveal patent filings made by the company of the device for various design elements, including a flexible display, as well as it having a team of 100 working on it. However, Apple has yet to make an official statement about its legitimacy.
