Disney+ secures global streaming rights for Formula E

Disney+ has acquired global streaming rights for the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship, making the platform the home of the electric racing series across more than 140 territories worldwide. In the US, live race coverage will stream on both Disney+ and ESPN+, while the league retains the ability to maintain local linear broadcast partnerships in select markets.

The agreement takes effect with the 2026/27 season, launching on December 18 in Saudi Arabia. The upcoming campaign features 21 rounds across 13 event weekends, with major stops including:

  • Key Destinations: Miami, Monaco, and Mexico City.
  • Distribution: Comprehensive race-weekend coverage, practice sessions, and qualifying rounds across Disney’s streaming platforms.

Founded in 2014, Formula E has steadily expanded its global audience. The deal with Disney replaces Roku as the league’s primary streaming partner, concluding a relationship that previously included live race coverage and original promotional docuseries.

The agreement reflects a broader realignment in sports broadcasting rights. While Formula E expands its global footprint with Disney, rival series Formula 1 recently parted ways with Disney’s ESPN to secure an exclusive US broadcast partnership with Apple.
