While financial details remain undisclosed, this is reportedly the most lucrative deal FIFA has ever signed with a streaming service for a major tournament. FIFA President Gianni Infantino hailed it as a “landmark moment for sports media rights” and a “truly historic day for broadcasting and for women’s football.”

This agreement follows FIFA’s groundbreaking decision to unbundle media rights for the Women’s World Cup, effective after Fox broadcasts the 2026 Men’s World Cup. The 2027 tournament will take place in Brazil, while the host nation for the 2031 event is yet to be determined, with the US expected to submit a bid.

The 2019 Women’s World Cup, won by the US, captivated a global audience of 1.12 billion viewers. The 2023 tournament further solidified the sport’s growing popularity in the US, achieving record domestic viewership.

This deal marks a significant step for Netflix in the live sports arena. While the platform recently streamed the exhibition boxing match between Jake Paul and Mike Tyson, its upcoming acquisition of weekly WWE Monday Night Raw broadcasts demonstrates its increasing commitment to live sporting events.
