According to a report from 9to5Google, during the holiday weekend, a screenshot shared by a Reddit user showcased a notification stating “Police reported ahead,” which was based on feedback from Waze users. This feature allows Google Maps users to verify the current status of reported incidents.
This marks the initial sighting of this integration in use, suggesting more such features might emerge. When the initiative was announced, Can Comertoglu, a group project manager, told The Verge that although the teams managing Maps and Waze have merged, the applications will remain distinct, respecting the unique preferences of each app’s user base. Waze’s extensive community of over 500,000 contributors favors certain aspects of Waze that differ from Google Maps, and vice versa.
