JoJo Tanks, a South African innovation powerhouse, is elevating its iconic water tanks to the realm of technology. These ubiquitous fixtures in South African gardens are undergoing a high-tech transformation with the introduction of the JoJo Monitor smartphone application.

The brainchild of Jan Joubert, who kick-started the revolution four decades ago by pioneering roto-moulding of large plastic containers in his farm kitchen, JoJo Tanks has consistently pushed the boundaries of innovation. Now, the company has unveiled the JoJo Monitor, a cutting-edge water-monitoring app available on both Apple and Android app stores.
Over the course of four years, JoJo Tanks collaborated closely with an engineering firm to not only develop the water-monitoring app but also craft three internet-of-things (IoT) devices that promise to revolutionize water management.
These JoJo IoT devices offer an impressive array of capabilities, including monitoring tank levels, measuring water consumption, and even detecting unwanted water accumulation in areas where it shouldn’t be. The JoJo Monitor app, meanwhile, provides users with customizable alerts and easy setup procedures. It utilizes Bluetooth for initial activation and testing, offering live readings and real-time monitoring when in proximity to the device.
For remote monitoring, JoJo Tanks leverages the Sigfox network, with each device bundled with a complimentary 12-month subscription to Sigfox. This setup facilitates the sharing of information among multiple users, enhancing water management and conservation efforts.
Among the trio of devices, the JoJo tank level stands as the first to hit the market. Distinguishing itself from ultrasound technology, it employs radar for more accurate readings that do not register the tank’s sides.
In the words of JoJo marketing executive Sebasti Badenhorst, “Remote level monitors empower users to manage what remains unseen—the water levels within their tanks.” The JoJo tank level device is ingeniously designed to perch atop JoJo tanks, offering flexibility for a wide range of applications and scalability for multiple-tank solutions.
Moreover, it comes pre-calibrated to accommodate JoJo’s vertical, slimline, and horizontal tanks, and can seamlessly adapt to interconnected tank systems. In essence, this innovative device is highly customizable to suit the specific needs of any water storage setup.
