Car tech is always on display at the yearly Consumer Electronics Show. First announced at CES 2018, the Hyundai e-Corner technology has been unveiled on a modified version of its Ioniq 5 EV. The system is expected to be included in its production vehicles by 2025, most likely only on its electric vehicle line-up.

Hyundai Mobis, the company’s tech research and development arm, has shared a video showing off how the module works. It is a different suspension system that allows the car’s wheels to turn in ways traditional vehicles can’t, with the depicted Hyundai Ioniq 5 able to crab-walk a full 90 degrees, much more than the similar system on the Hummer EV.
Interestingly, unlike other systems, e-Corner is able to turn all four wheels in both directions, allowing the vehicle to drive completely sideways, making parallel parking a synch, and truly parallel for the first time. Less practical but just as cool, e-Corner also enables cars to move diagonally and rotate on the spot. It’s even possible to pull off a pivot turn.
