This is what the iPhone 14 Plus costs in South Africa

iStore, official distributor of Apple products in South Africa, has revealed local pricing for the upcoming iPhone 14 Plus. It is the last outstanding piece of the iPhone 14 range puzzle, as Apple only launched it weeks after the rest of the iPhone 14 series. Pricing of the other iPhone 14 prices saw a massive increase locally, and the same is the case with the Plus.

One of the major reasons for the massive increases in the South African pricing is the weak Rand, which is about 15 percent weaker than this time a year ago. However, the iPhone prices see even a heftier price increase as the exchange rate fluctuations would imply. South African are looking for the larger version of the base iPhone model will need to cough up at least R24,499.

iPhone 14 Plus

  • 128GB: R24 499
  • 256GB: R26 999
  • 512GB: R32 499

It is an interesting price point, as the iPhone 14 Pro starts from R25,699. The price differences are minor, so the iPhone 14 Plus will only be compelling for people that want the larger display, but don’t want to cough up the additional R4,000 for the Pro Max.

If pre-order numbers from around the world are to be believed, it is clear that the iPhone 14 Plus will be the least popular device in the new range. The same was the case for the smallest model in previous years – the low sales numbers of the iPhone 13 Mini led the company to discontinue the small iPhone in 2022.

It also seems that the Pro models are outperforming the non-Pro models by a substantial margin, and it is having an effect on aftermarket prices. The data shows that the ‌iPhone 14‌ and ‌iPhone 14‌ Plus are performing poorly in terms of value retention, depreciating twice as much as the ‌iPhone 13‌ and ‌iPhone 13‌ mini in the same 10-day period after launch. In the 10 days after launch, the standard ‌iPhone 14‌ models lost 38.4 percent of their value on average, over double the 18.2 percent depreciation of the ‌iPhone 13‌ models in the same timeframe last year.
