SwiftKey is being pulled from the Apple App Store, with Microsoft ending support for the iOS version on October 5th. It will still be available if you’ve already downloaded SwiftKey on your iPhone, so long as you don’t uninstall it yourself.

“Microsoft will continue support for SwiftKey Android as well as the underlying technology that powers the Windows touch keyboard,” Chris Wolfe, the director of product management at SwiftKey, said in a statement to The Verge. “For those customers who have SwiftKey installed on iOS, it will continue to work until it is manually uninstalled or a user gets a new device.”
It has been clear Microsoft wasn’t committed to supporting SwiftKey on iOS since acquiring the business. They haven’t updated the iOS app in more than a year. The move to completely discontinue it on iOS comes after many months of complaints from users, most of which weren’t attended to or resolved.
It remains unclear why Microsoft has decided to end support on iPhones. SwiftKey has been available on iOS since 2014, two years before Microsoft acquired the app. SwiftKey will still remain available and fully supported on Android, and Microsoft continues to roll out regular updates. Last year, SwiftKey brought clipboard syncing across Windows and Android devices that use the app but said it’s “not possible to sync your clips to iOS” at the time — and now we know why.
