HTC, having left the smartphone market behind, has been focusing on its VR technology. It announced the Viverse, an answer to Facebook’s metaverse, which taps in to the technology it has built for its HTC Vive VR headsets. HTC has teased a new product launch on June 28th that looks like a new smartphone ready to tap into the power of the Viverse.

At Mobile World Congress (MWC 2022) the company said that they would launch a new high-end smartphone with some Viverse capability, and this teaser seems to be suggesting its coming in June. The company has teased this launch on Twitter, with an image of a phone shape as well as the Viverse logo.
The new smartphone is likely to offer an AR/VR experience via HTC’s open-source Viverse, which allows you to socialize, hold meetings and more in VR. It lets you chat with others via VRChat, hold business meetings in Engage, collaborate in Vive Sync, watch “holographic” VR concerts and more. It’s also expected to offer integration with the Vive Flow VR headset.

HTC has been once a key major player in the Android smartphone market, with innovative flagship products. Its One, Desire series of smartphones have been massive sellers at a time. Unfortunately, the brand lost traction and gave up on the Chinese players in the smartphone business.
Unlike HTC’s Exodus phone from a few years ago, which included some blockchain capabilities, it’s not obvious whether there’s any crossover between crypto and VR lovers. Chunghwa Telecom, Taiwan Mobile, and FarEasTone have all been said to be working with it in Taiwan, according to a Focus Taiwan article. More information regarding the smartphone will be released on June 28th by HTC.
While it might not be made for the mass market, we are just excited that HTC may launch a new high-end device.
