According to a Bloomberg report, Apple is readying to release four new Macs with an M2 chip later this year. This news comes from famed Apple leaker and reporter Mark Gurman, who expects Apple to debut a 13-inch MacBook Pro, Mac Mini, 24-inch iMac, and a redesigned MacBook Air, all running on the brand new rumoured M2 chip.

Apple hasn’t spoken about a follow-up to the much-vaunted M1 chipset, but Gurman says the new CPU will be slightly faster than the M1’s, and that it will share the same eight-core architecture. Its graphics cores, however, may jump from seven or eight to nine or 10. He also adds that Apple may release Pro and Max versions of the M2 chip in 2023, just like they did with the M1 Pro and Max in 2021.
The Cupertino firm is continuing to distance itself from Intel, and soon no Apple product will run on Intel silicon. Gurman expects a larger iMac Pro with M1 Pro and M1 Max chip options to replace its current 27-inch iMac Pro, along with a smaller Mac Pro that comes “with the equivalent of either two or four M1 Max chips.”
The new Macs are expected to be released in March, May and June. Apple is already tipped to reveal a 5G iPhone SE, 5G iPad Air, and potentially one new Mac at a rumored March 8th event. At this event they will also release iOS 15.4, which comes with a face mask-friendly Face ID.
Just a few years ago, the Mac business looked like it was waning. At the time, Mac updates had become less frequent, the MacBook Pro was a disaster, and all attention was on the iPad and iPhone.
