According to Huawei, it will launch a new clamshell foldable later this month called the Huawei P50 Pocket, similar to the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip. As is the case with the latter, the P50 Pocket is a clamshell flip phone that unfolds into the size of a regular smartphone. It is the first foldable of the kind made by Huawei, which has been focusing on the beautiful outwardly folding Mate X foldables until now.

The new foldable looks to be designed as a fashionable device, with a rear design reminiscent of the Huawei P50 – the circular camera bumps used this time to house the camera setup and the small secondary screen on the outside of the device. While this may look good, it is a strange design choice seeing as other flip phone foldables have recently opted for larger, more useful outer displays. The device will be available in silver and gold.

Harper’s Bazaar China posted a series of photos showing the Huawei P50 Pocket on its Weibo account today, giving us a great look at the folded device. Unfortunately there aren’t any photos showing off the interior folding display. It will be interesting to see how Huawei handled the internal fold, as they Mate X2 doesn’t have the same screen crease issue as other foldable. The nature of the backward fold means the radius of the bended screen is large enough to avoid having a crease running down the middle of the display.

There’s no word on specs just yet, but we’re expecting a Kirin 9000 or Snapdragon 888 4G SoC as well as a smaller battery than traditional flagship phones. There is only mention of a Chinese launch, so we have no idea if other markets will also get the device soon thereafter.
